Speaker:
Ricardo Ferreira, Developer Advocate, Confluent

Title:
Developing Kafka-based Apps using Confluent Cloud

Abstract:
While Apache Kafka has been unarguably successful for on-premise environments, there is a increasing trend of using Kafka in the cloud. To address this trend fully managed services like Confluent Cloud were created to allow developers leverage the most of Kafka but without the operational burden that maintaining clusters by themselves can bring.

This talk will explain in details the first steps to start using Confluent Cloud, how to write producer and consumer applications using Java and Go, as well as how to create event streaming applications using the managed version of ksqlDB. This talk has no slides and the speaker will create everything from scratch while walking through the code and resources created. Join us if you love hands-on talks!

Bio:
Ricardo is a Developer Advocate at Confluent, the company founded by the creators of Apache Kafka. He has over 22 years of experience working with software engineering, where he specialized in SOA, Big Data, Cloud, and Serverless. Prior to Confluent, he worked for other vendors such as Oracle, Red Hat and IONA Technologies, as well as several consulting firms. While not working he enjoys grilling steaks on his backyard with his family and friends, where he gets the chance to talk about anything that is not IT related. Currently, he lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife, and son. Follow Ricardo on Twitter: @riferrei
