Whether you're curious and just starting out, dabble in PHP on the weekends, write custom PHP on a daily basis, work in a framework like Symfony, Zend Framework, Silex, Slim, Laravel, CakePHP or customize CMS products like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla; our goal is that you will find something new, useful and thought provoking.

Interested in giving a presentation to the group, or demoing something you're working on? Contact one of the organizers through Meetup or talk after a monthly meeting to sign up!

For this kick off meeting, your Meetup organizer will also be the presenter; so allow me to introduce - myself:

My name is Dan Davis, I am a Sr. Systems Analyst with the Jackson County, Missouri Department of Information Technology. I have been a software developer for 20 years. I have developed desktop and web applications, in a variety of platforms and frameworks. I believe that the most interesting fact about my career in Information Technology that I could share is the complete lack of formal education and training with which it all began. My introduction to information technology began with a temporary assignment that I was given at my job that required me to become familiar with Excel, Word and Access. I began to teach myself everything that I could to try to stand out (just a bit) from the crowd. Microsoft Office gave me exactly what I needed, at exactly the right time in my career - a feature-rich, yet easy to learn, set of desktop publishing tools. Once I started working with Office I was hooked. I began to learn about data types, data relationships, structured query language, order of operations, filtering, sorting, cross-tabbing, I could not get enough! Building things that made it possible for my co-workers to do their jobs faster and better (and with pie charts, oooh, who doesn't love pie charts) gave me a sense of pride and purpose I had never EVER felt before. Soon after that temporary assignment, I was asked to begin developing desktop and web applications, and web services, and I never looked back.

So now, some 20 years later as I have been assisting one of my kids get a small business up and running, I have rediscovered the Joy Of Office - in Office 365; Microsoft's oh-so-correct and complete answer to any request that anyone might ever ask of you. Can you _______? Yes I can, and we will be able to share and collaborate - 'till it shines

...BUT THERE IS SO MUCH NEW GOODNESS TO LEARN IN OFFICE 365. So much power, flexibility and ability to scale as an organization grows. I think that what I love the most about Office 365 is that it is the right fit for ANY size organization. It is affordable, powerful and flexible.

So, lets get this Meetup off to a great start! We will discuss goals for the remainder of this first year. We will put together a list of topics for meetings, and we will discuss options for building a repository of sample projects and solutions. In addition to inviting experienced presenters and IT professionals to speak at KC Office 365 meetings, every member of this Meetup will be invited to give presentations on Office 365 topics - if they wish to do so. However, for this first Meetup it will just be us, drawing up a plan to build the best Meetup group possible.

Open to anyone in the area who is interested in developing video games. In order to have a little structure, we'll try to do a couple things each week:

Introduce new members. What have you worked on, game related or not? What do you want to work on next?

Discuss this week's conversation starter. Some article, video or game that we can dig into a little.

Members can present any games they're working on, for feedback or just to brag.

Of course, it's all very informal. The main goal is interesting conversation(s) about our passion.

Looking forward to it!

Learn the basics of soldering and make a Drawdio that will give you many hours of musical drawing.

For Ages: 9-109 years old

(all materials included)

Children must be accompanied by an adult (no extra charge)

Drawdio is an electronic pencil that lets you make music while you draw! It's great project for beginners: An easy soldering kit with instant gratification. Essentially, it's a very simple musical synthesizer that uses the conductive properties of pencil graphite to create different sounds. The result is a fun toy that lets you draw musical instruments on any piece of paper. Runs on a single AAA battery for many hours (even 'nearly dead' batteries will work). Pencils are provided, but feel free to bring a more festive one of your own if you prefer. Ridiculously fun for all ages!

We understand Web Developers often come from all backgrounds, and many work in more languages than PHP.

Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 7:00:00 PM Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen 1526 Walnut Street, Kansas City, MO
