Join us for this engaging webinar in which you'll learn which skills and tools you'll need to get started as a data analyst, and the many real-world problems that you'll be able to conquer once you've mastered your new skill set.

What you will learn:

Why data analytics skills are in such high demand
What a normal day looks like for a data analyst and the tools they use
Navigating the data analytics ecosystem
And much more...

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, THIS MEETING WILL BE HELD ONLINE WITH DISCORD: https://discord.gg/wmFHB7y

Open to anyone in the area who is interested in developing video games. In order to have a little structure, we'll try to do a couple things each week:

Introduce new members. What have you worked on, game related or not? What do you want to work on next?

Discuss this week's conversation starter. Some article, video or game that we can dig into a little.

Members can present any games they're working on, for feedback or just to brag.

Of course, it's all very informal. The main goal is interesting conversation(s) about our passion.

Looking forward to it!

Join us online for the next book we will be reading in the KC Tech Book Club!

From Amazon: "In his mega bestseller, Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman, world-famous psychologist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, takes us on a groundbreaking tour of the mind and explains the two systems that drive the way we think. System 1 is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System 2 is slower, more deliberative, and more logical. The impact of overconfidence on corporate strategies, the difficulties of predicting what will make us happy in the future, the profound effect of cognitive biases on everything from playing the stock market to planning our next vacation―each of these can be understood only by knowing how the two systems shape our judgments and decisions.

Engaging the reader in a lively conversation about how we think, Kahneman reveals where we can and cannot trust our intuitions and how we can tap into the benefits of slow thinking. He offers practical and enlightening insights into how choices are made in both our business and our personal lives―and how we can use different techniques to guard against the mental glitches that often get us into trouble. Topping bestseller lists for almost ten years, Thinking, Fast and Slow is a contemporary classic, an essential book that has changed the lives of millions of readers."

Feel free to still come if you haven't read the book or just read parts of it or read it years ago and can't remember anything about it. It will be a very laid-back discussion format.

UX case studies form the core content of a UX professional's portfolio. They are essential to getting you hired because case studies are a window to your professional practice — they show how you think, adapt, cooperate, and ultimately solve challenges. What does a good case study look like? And how should you build them to make your portfolio shine?

A great UX case study tells a story about you and like all the best stories, case studies benefit tremendously from a solid structure that guides the reader through your thinking and experience. Join us for this webinar as we discuss how to create impactful case studies with the right structure that will help your portfolio stand out from the rest.

What you will learn:

What is a Case Study?
How case studies are essential to your portfolio
Anatomy of the Case Study
The seven questions every case study should answer

How to join us: Once you register with Eventbrite, you will receive an email with the links to the live webinar from BigMarker. If you do not receive your link, please email [email protected].

Talk: Using DJL to deploy a pre-trained deep learning model directly from Apache Kafka®

Abstract: Leading streaming users such as Netflix and Amazon music use open source library DJL to deploy deep learning models directly from Scala-based streaming applications. Deep Java Library (djl) is an open source library designed to let you build and deploy AI models within the Java/Scala ecosystem. In this talk, we will give a high-level overview of DJL architecture and main features. Then we will show how data engineers with minimum data science experience can make use of the latest and greatest open source AI models by using DJL to deploy a pre-trained deep learning model directly from Kafka. We can end with a customer story (Netflix) on deploying pre-trained deep learning models from streaming applications for real-time and large scale inference.

Bios:
Lai Wei is a Software Engineer with AWS Deep Learning team. He is focusing on building easy to use, high-performance and scalable deep learning frameworks for engineers and data scientists. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his son, hiking, and skiing.

Stanislav Kirdey works at Netflix where he focuses on large-scale, applied machine learning in the areas of NLP, search, and anomaly detection. Outside of machine learning and work, Stanislav is obsessed with RuPaul's Drag Race, POSE, and Star Trek.

WELCOM OUR SPONSOR
CISCO
Carolina Terrzas
Welcome Carolina Terrazas
Cyber Security Specialist

Carolina Terrazas has working in infosec for 12 years, at Cisco Security for the last 7. She is a member of the security capture the flag team at Cisco and has spoken to conferences on exploiting critical infrastructure and Modbus process control networks. She is a regular at SecKC and DEFCON, among other security groups.

THE IMPORTANCE OF
DNS LAYER SECURITY
All devices use recursive DNS as the first step to connect to places on the Internet. Unfortunately, so do cyber criminals. Malware, ransomware, phishing and other scams use DNS servers to look up and connect to infrastructure that is set up by cyber criminals to power these attacks. Nothing stops attacks earlier than DNS-layer security. After all, DNS is the first step in making a connection on the Internet, and if a connection is blocked at the DNS layer, then it stops there.
Join us virtually at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, March 3, 2021

5:30 - Welcome/Chapter Announcements

5:45 - Presentation/Open Discussion

6:30 - Wrap Up

6:45 - Meeting Closeout
Please join us on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021, at 5:30pm as Carolina Terrazas from Cisco shares more about DNS-Layer Security, how this technology fits with the Cyber Kill Chain for a defensive capability, and limitations to be aware of. She will discuss recent ransomware attacks and at what point in the kill chain a DNS block would have kept a compromise from turning into an enterprise-wide breach.
We encourage open discussions and questions throughout the presentation.
