Tony Boswell is a Udacity Front End Web Developer Nanodegree Scholarship Graduate who began working at iModules in January of this year.

Before starting his career in tech, Tony had worked the last 14 years as an over the road truck driver, racking up over 1.5 million accident free miles and visiting all but 2 of the 50 states, where he hauled everything from dry vans, to refrigerated trailer, to crude oil tankers. The last 4 years of his driving career, Tony owned his own truck and grain trailer, specializing his transportation business in pet food ingredients, because unlike grain crops, road salt, and sand which were seasonal, pet food was year-round work. His last year as an Owner-operator, Tony spent over 320 days on the road.

Tony is now able to enjoy spending time at home with his wife, and binge-watching his favorite Netflix shows, but his real passion is island hopping. Tony's idea of vacationing is far away from the asphalt jungle and traffic.

Open to anyone in the area who is interested in developing video games. In order to have a little structure, we'll try to do a couple things each week:

Introduce new members. What have you worked on, game related or not? What do you want to work on next?

Discuss this week's conversation starter. Some article, video or game that we can dig into a little.

Members can present any games they're working on, for feedback or just to brag.

Of course, it's all very informal. The main goal is interesting conversation(s) about our passion.

Looking forward to it!

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 6:30:00 PM Online Meeting Adobe Connect, Kansas City, mo

Creative professions can be tough sometimes, right? Let's talk about it!

A few months ago, we did a round-table on business topics; this meeting will be similar, but about the mental, creative, and social aspects of what we do.

Overworking, imposter syndrome, chasing "likes", industry "crunch" culture, burn-out, staying focused, keeping on-track with long-term projects ... any of these sound familiar?

We can't offer professional counseling, but we can offer a safe place to talk about issues we've probably all run into. We will do our best to have an open and frank discussion on handling any of the above situations and more.

We'd love for this to be a round-table conversation again - (anyone in the chat can talk once the hosts allow) - collectively, this group has tons of amazing knowledge and advice, and we love tapping into that.

We'll be opening up the Adobe Connect room (http://experts.adobeconnect.com/howtodeal/) at 6:00pm for social time, and starting the meeting at 6:30, as per usual. Because we're doing this meeting online, you can even stay anonymous if you'd prefer!

Having trouble finding time to write your blog post. Me too.

I want to have a dedicated time to work on my blog post each week, I figured it would be great to schedule a time to blog and be with other WordPress people.

Let's get together and write and talk some, but be a support network to get our blog posts written.

This is not a help session, it is to post blogs.

This is not an information session, it is to post on your own website.

I plan on two in the morning per Month on Tuesdays or Wednesdays... Depending on my teaching schedule. Hope you to see you there.

NOTE - The library has free wifi. If you want a secure internet connection, bring your own hotspot - one will not be provided. The library does have secure computers right outside the conference 2 meeting room. The meeting room will change based on availability

Shop towels are a fun object to screen print for a novice, because you don't feel to bad if you mess up a print... it still works as a shop rag!

In this class we will be using diazo photo-emulsion to create the silk screens from scratch as well as using previously burned screens.

Students will help select the art we use for the new screens.
All materials are included. Each student will print several copies of favorite designs, and take home 8 prints!

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 7:00:00 PM Denny's Restaurant 1600 Broadway Blvd, Kansas City,

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 6:00:00 PM Westport Coffee House 4010 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City, MO

Join us for the first ever KC Tech Book Club! A few people are interested in reading Deep Work by Cal Newport which should be great since it really applies to anyone doing work in the tech industry and there's a lot of interesting ideas in it.

I plan to schedule at least one other meetup on Deep Work so don't worry if you can't make this one. And feel free to still come if you haven't read the book. It will be a very laid-back discussion format. Should be fun!

Heidi is a developer advocate with LaunchDarkly. She delights in working at the intersection of usability, risk reduction, and cutting-edge technology. One of her favorite hobbies is talking to developers about things they already knew but had never thought of that way before. She sews all her conference dresses so that she's sure there is a pocket for the mic.

LaunchDarkly is a company that produces a SaaS-based feature flag management system helpful in the development, testing, and deployment of web-based software applications. It enables testing in production and the ability to carefully control the blast radius of new features. Come hear representatives discuss effective strategies for implementing feature flags and managing long term.

We'll have food and beer. (More details coming. Please comment with special requests.)

H&R Block is located at 1301 Main Street, KCMO 64105. There is a parking garage located under the green oval glass building. It's accessible from both Walnut and Main. When you get to the gate press the button and let the security person know you're here for DevOpsKC. They'll open the gate. Park in a visitor spot. Walk down until you see the elevator behind a glass door. Take it to the lobby. We'll have signs to direct you to the Knowledge Center room where we'll meet.

This meetup will be recorded and uploaded to the DevOpsKC Youtube channel after the event. There will probably not be a livestream.

For all DevOpsKC Meetups, we follow the DevOpsDays Code of Conduct: https://devopsdays.org/events/2019-kansas-city/conduct/
