Looking to build a strong foundation for a career in UX/UI Design? Learn all about Wireframes and Prototypes in this interactive webinar!

About this event

Wireframes and prototypes are two of the most foundational pieces of the UX/UI Design Process, but creating your first version (or several!) of each can feel a little intimidating. How do you even get started? What separates good wireframes from bad ones? And how do you take your basic wireframes to working prototypes that will impress the rest of your team?

Join us for this hands-on workshop where we'll break down best practices of wireframing and prototyping in UX/UI Design, examine some different use cases from out in the wild, and use Figma to apply what you'll learn to a real-world example.

What you will learn:

Why UX/UI skills are so in-demand
Guiding principles for good wireframes
Hands-on experience with Figma for prototyping
And much more...

How to join us: Once you register with Eventbrite, you will receive an email with the links to the live webinar from BigMarker. If you do not receive your link, please email virtual@thinkful.com.

During our 6th event in our "Hello, " series of introductory Big Data topic meetups, we're going to introduce you to Apache HBase & Apache Phoenix as available through CDP Operational Database data service. This discussion assumes that you may have heard about them but not that you understand how the combination is similar to or different from a traditional RDBMS.

This presentation will cover the basics of when to use HBase alone vs with Phoenix. We will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of HBase & Phoenix and how you create & deploy an example Java-based application to work with them.

Some of the questions we will address include:
-How exactly does the Apache HBase architecture support both high availability and massive scalability?
-What are the most important use cases which demonstrate Phoenix's most compelling features?
-How easy it is to build scalable, distributed applications leveraging developers' existing knowledge of traditional relational databases? We'll answer these questions and more!

This is still a tricky time for public gatherings, but Future of Data is committed to providing great tech content & facilitating discussions in the "Big Data" space. In order to do our part to fight the spread of COVID-19's Delta variant, this will be an exclusively online event with an originating Time Zone of EDT (the event time displayed on this page will reflect your equivalent local time). Our Providence, RI-focused group is the host venue, we thought it might be of interest to our wider membership (you are welcome to sign up for it here).

THIS IS A TWO DAY CLASS - SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. 12pm-4pm

In this class we will be learning how to design our own flanged maces using modern tools.

With the help of vector drawing software and a CNC plasma cutter, students will personalize the design and then learn to cut it out.

Next, we will be assembling our mace heads using a mig welder. Depending on the available time, we will begin finishing our welding work with abrasive tools.

On day two, we will be learning to operate a wood lathe.
Students will turn their own mace handles to mechanically fit their heads, and add beauty to the handle.

We will also learn about air powered metal finishing tools, which we will use to refine and smooth our welding work and finish our metal surfaces.

At the end of the day, we will assemble our mace and learn about finishing wooden tool handles for longevity, grip, comfort, and beauty.

This class is suitable for ages 16 - 116
Please wear closed toe shoes and bring a long sleeve denim or heavy cotton shirt to weld in. (NO FLANNEL PLEASE)
