Data Engineering is undergoing a huge evolution requiring faster and more reliable data pipelines. Apache Spark and Python are core foundational components of this new architecture enabling data engineers to quickly develop these pipelines. They also introduce challenges when moving to production.

Come join us as we:
- Dive into operationalizing data engineering pipelines using "Spark as a - Service" to make these tasks more efficient and economical.
- Look at how Apache Airflow manages these jobs
- Explore ways to monitor and optimize data engineering in production.

Ask questions and learn. We will also have a raffle of Cloudera swag.

This is still a tricky time for public gatherings, but Future of Data is committed to providing great tech content & facilitating discussions in the "Big Data" space. In order to do our part to fight the spread of COVID-19's delta variant, this will be an exclusively online event with an originating Time Zone of EDT (the event time displayed on this page will reflect the equivalent local time). We thought it might be of interest to our wider membership (you are welcome to sign up for it here).

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, THIS MEETING WILL BE HELD ONLINE WITH DISCORD: https://discord.gg/wmFHB7y

Open to anyone in the area who is interested in developing video games. In order to have a little structure, we'll try to do a couple things each week:

Introduce new members. What have you worked on, game related or not? What do you want to work on next?

Discuss this week's conversation starter. Some article, video or game that we can dig into a little.

Members can present any games they're working on, for feedback or just to brag.

Of course, it's all very informal. The main goal is interesting conversation(s) about our passion.

Looking forward to it!

How might you answer the question "when will it be done?" What about "how long will this take?" These can be critical questions in helping decide if we should do something, along with starting a conversation with customers and stakeholders. Since we don't have a crystal ball, we don't know exactly what the future holds. But all hope is not lost. There is an option.
In this talk, Kevin will share an introduction to how flow metrics can be collected and then used to improve predictability and allow for effective forecasting. He'll share some real-world examples of how powerful this data can be, how it can be introduced within an organization, and how it can be used to help teams improve discussions with their stakeholders and customers.

Bio: Kevin is an Agile Coach, Trainer, and Practitioner with over 15 years of experience using Agile and Lean methods at organizations varying from small startups to large multinational firms. He founded JEM Software to help organizations improve what matters to create better outcomes while creating more human workplaces. Kevin has a proven track record of helping create holistic views of organizational systems in order to enable business agility. Kevin's broad range of experience bridging software development and product management has helped organizations understand where their greatest opportunities to improve are and gather the right data to enable them to capitalize on those opportunities.
When Kevin is not helping organizations to improve he's busy as a devoted husband and father. He enjoys time outdoors hiking, camping, and most of all, skiing.

Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 3:30:00 PM Online event

We are excited to have the next Virtual Mid-Central Red Hat Users Group event on Wednesday September 22nd, 2021 from 3:30 - 5:30pm CST. We are combining Kansas City, Denver, Omaha, Des Moines, and St. Louis RHUG events for Q3.

We will be delivering an engaging discussion and demonstrations applicable to any IT professional engaged with, or interested in GitOps the next generation of continuous delivery and Ansible Automation Platform virtual environments.

- Chris Bowland, Red Hat Senior Cloud Solution Architect - Will be presenting and a demonstration on using GitOps the next generation of continuous delivery:
GitOps – What is it and why should you care? Leveraging the same basic tooling and practices that application developers have been using for years, I&O teams are now provisioning infrastructure and deploying code through familiar Git pull-request workflows. The pull-request workflow is a familiar practice for applications teams and the basic idea of GitOps is to apply that same workflow to any change that goes into infrastructure too. Changes are proposed via a pull-request to the respective Git repository, and after the appropriate reviews and approvals, it is merged into that repository which is then applied to the target infrastructure. The complete history of the changes, review process and deployment is now visible through the Git history on the repository.

- Shadd Gallegos, Sr. Solution Architect / Ansible Expert - Shadd is going to talk about what Ansible Virtual Environments are?
Virtualenv creates isolated Python environments to avoid problems caused by conflicting dependencies and differing versions. Virtualenv works by simply creating a folder which contains all of the necessary executables and dependencies for a specific version of Python. Ansible Tower creates two virtualenvs during installation–one is used to run Tower, while the other is used to run Ansible. This allows Tower to run in a stable environment, while allowing you to add or update modules to your Ansible Python environment as necessary to run your playbooks. For more information on virtualenv, see the Python Guide to Virtual Environments and the Python virtualenv project itself.

Please register and make plans to join us for a great virtual opportunity to collaborate, network with other IT professionals around the Mid Central US, and hear engaging presentations!

Saturday Meeting Format

Our Saturday meetings are free-formed. Attendees bring up topics that interest them or that they want feedback on. Attendees are welcome to participate or just kick back and soak in the discussions. There are also no dumb questions! If you're just starting out this is a great opportunity to ask questions.

The meeting structure usually follows this format:

* Introductions / meet and greet new members
* Open group discussion on any development topic, concern or question; discussing any new happenings that interest the group
* Get help setting up your development environment, looking at code, quick demos, etc. (time permitting)

All levels welcome!

Maybe you have been using using PHP for a week or even a decade--we all have things to learn and share. If you enjoy working with PHP, or want to learn more about it this meeting is for you.

Get Involved

If you're looking for a presentation-focused event with talks and demos, check out our weeknight meetups. We would also love to have you present! Please contact an organizer through Meetup or talk after a meeting to tell us more about your topic.

In this class we will be using the plasma cutter, metal break, and welder to cut, fold, and weld 16 gauge steel into fun bookends. A number of designs have been pre-created for the class, but you are also welcome to bring your own vector silhouette or an idea with you, as we will be learning about setting up your vectors for plasma cutting during the first half of class. This is the perfect class for those who want to learn how to use a CNC plasma cutter.

*** Please RSVP on Eventbrite to receive an email with your customized webinar link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/thinkful-webinar-uxui-design-wireframes-and-prototypes-tickets-166569986313?aff=Meetup ***

Looking to build a strong foundation for a career in UX/UI Design? Learn all about Wireframes and Prototypes in this interactive webinar!

About this event
Wireframes and prototypes are two of the most foundational pieces of the UX/UI Design Process, but creating your first version (or several!) of each can feel a little intimidating. How do you even get started? What separates good wireframes from bad ones? And how do you take your basic wireframes to working prototypes that will impress the rest of your team?

Join us for this hands-on workshop where we'll break down best practices of wireframing and prototyping in UX/UI Design, examine some different use cases from out in the wild, and use Figma to apply what you'll learn to a real-world example.

What you will learn:

Why UX/UI skills are so in-demand
Guiding principles for good wireframes
Hands-on experience with Figma for prototyping
And much more...

How to join us: Once you register with Eventbrite, you will receive an email with the links to the live webinar from BigMarker. If you do not receive your link, please email virtual@thinkful.com.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We are taking a hiatus from our in-person Hack Nights as we deal with the implications of COVID-19. We encourage teams to continue project work and to meet virtually from 6:00-8:00pm on Mondays. Our ability to provide pizza and snacks will be compromised, however :).

Individual teams will have access to video breakouts via Zoom. You can use Slack for breakout rooms if you like.

We are also exploring possible projects we could take on to help address this public health emergency. Please email codeforkc@kcdigitaldrive.org if you have any questions or are interested in working on immediate public health-related projects.

Thanks,
Aaron, Paul, and the rest of the Core Team
