We will be meeting remotely this month, so make something delicious for lunch and participate from home! Networking will be from 11:30-12:00 and the session will start promptly at 12:00.

Troubleshooting Performance Issues in SharePoint Online Sites

Since its introduction, the growth in popularity and compelling value of Office 365 have resulted in many organizations adopting SharePoint Online rather than building an on-premises implementation. Building SharePoint Online sites shouldn't be approached with the same mindset as on-premises site construction, though. In this session, we'll explore some of the key differences between SharePoint Online and SharePoint on-premises that impact performance and affect site design. We'll examine why developing for the cloud is different, identify common performance issues/concerns, and demonstrate some good (and not-so-good) site construction approaches.

We'll also look at some hands-on troubleshooting techniques that are available for diagnosing common SharePoint Online performance issues, as well as some solutions that can be applied. At the conclusion of this session, participants will have a greater understanding of SharePoint Online, how to build snappy sites in SharePoint Online, and how to conduct basic performance troubleshooting in the cloud.

Presented by: Sean McDonough

Sean is a consultant for Bitstream Foundry, a Cincinnati-based provider of SharePoint solutions, services, and consulting. Microsoft certified MCP, MCTS, and MCPD, Sean has over two decades of experience developing software, building infrastructures, and solving technical problems. Unable to take anything except the deep dive into any role, Sean has acquired a diverse and expansive skill set as consultant, product manager, solution architect, team lead, administrator, and platform evangelist through the years. Some might label his passion for all things tech related as borderline 'obsession', but it is equal only to his desire to share those discoveries and experiences with others as author, blogger, and frequent speaker/instructor at technical conferences, user groups, and similar events all over North America. Sean is also an Microsoft MVP for Office Apps & Services.

About KC M365 User Group:

This user group is designed for KC professionals who work with Microsoft 365 and SharePoint to network and learn from each other. Meetings are on the second Monday of each month over lunch. Join us for a free lunch and stick around to learn more about SharePoint and Microsoft 365!

Code Tampering: 4 Keys to Risk Reduction

IF YOU'D LIKE TO JOIN LIVE AND/OR GET A COPY OF THE RECORDING, MAKE SURE TO SIGN UP HERE (AND NOT JUST ON MEETUP): https://cycode.com/risk-reduction

Thur, July 28th, 2021
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM PST

Code tampering is a software company's worst nightmare. Unfortunately, 2021 has been the year that this nightmare has come true from many organizations. In fact, code tampering has led to new major supply chain attacks nearly every month: SolarWinds, Accellion, Mimecast, Click Studios, PHP, CodeCov, and Kaseya.

These incidents make it clear that the attackers are targeting DevOps tools and infrastructure just as hard as production applications. Attackers are now looking for any entry point into the victim's SDLC and then seeking to expand laterally across each phase to tamper with code and push it live into production without detection. Ironically, DevOps automation that increases release efficiency also makes it easier for attackers to move laterally as each system becomes more tightly interconnected.

After an overview of code tampering, and learnings from recent incidents, this webinar will propose a four-pillar approach to reducing code tampering risk:

Increasing integrity: Confirming files & artifacts across each phase of the SDLC
Anomaly detection: Connecting dots from disparate systems to identify breaches
Critical code monitoring: Determining which code to monitor for any and all changes
Defense in depth: Applying security and governance policies across DevOps tools and cloud infrastructure.

It's common to work with inputs and forms in React, but there aren't any good solutions from the big 3 libraries. Many times, it's just simpler to write your own simple wrapper.

Even still, it'd be nice to have something super simple to help manage forms and that's what I built: OneForm; the one form library you'll need. It does everything for you, and allows you to extend it as-necessary.

Avoiding risk when moving legacy apps to the cloud
Live Webinar + Q&A
Tue, July 27, 10:00 AM
Eastern Daylight Time

Almost every established and mature organization will have some legacy systems that are critical to their success. And yet, since these systems are frequently quite old, they no longer work well in the modern world – they may lag behind comparable tools in features and convenience.

Even when a replacement is found, many organizations put off the migration for as long as possible until they no longer can, as it is often viewed as risky and expensive.

Join us on this webinar to learn about:

Why would you want to migrate your legacy application to the cloud
Common migration approaches
Ways to make the migration faster and painless
How to minimize risk during the migration process

Hosted by Denis Nwanshi and AI, Blockchain, RPA & QC Meetup - Toronto
https://www.meetup.com/AI-Blockchain-RPA-QC-Meetup-Toronto/

Speaker Nelson Petracek

As businesses around the world digitally transform—and your company tries to stay relevant while balancing sustainability and social responsibility—effective, efficient, and secure operations are critical. To achieve the level of agility needed to succeed in an increasingly connected world, many organizations are building "digital twins" – digital representations of devices and equipment, but also of business processes, people, and even the organization itself.

But what do these digital twins look like?

What capabilities are required for a successful digital twin?

And how can blockchain play a role in enriching their implementation across complex distributed systems?

Join this session to discuss these questions, and to hear how blockchain, in conjunction with smart contracts, can drive the next generation of digital twin applications.

Date: Thurs 22nd July, 11:30am–12:30pm PDT / 2:30-3:30pm EDT

This will be a 20 minute live session with a 10 minute live Q & A.

Bootcamps can help launch new careers. Learn how to navigate program challenges from a Thinkful alum and impress employers after graduating.

About this event

Breaking into a career in software engineering is all about showing you've got the skills to make an impact from day one. The new normal? Career-focused bootcamps that are built around advancing or helping you break into high-paying industries faster than ever before. They provide an accessible way to more opportunities, more growth, and higher salaries.

Bootcamp courses come with their own challenges, but plenty of students have come before you, and they're ready to share valuable insights on excelling in our programs and hitting the ground running upon graduation.

Join us as we talk to a Thinkful graduate and explore the ways he made the most of his bootcamp experience and launched a successful career. We will dive into his Thinkful journey, the successful habits he created to stand out from the crowd, and how he ultimately got hired at his dream job.

About the Speaker:

Peter Correa has now worked as a Software Engineer for two different companies, but developing web applications and frameworks wasn't always on his career trajectory. In his early years, he worked as a Technical Specialist for Apple, which is where the seeds of interest in technology may have been planted. After that experience, he followed the traditional education path, earning a Bachelor in Liberal Arts & Sciences from Florida International University and going on to work as a Senior Manager at Target.
However, after 5 years in that role, he decided that it was time for a career change which led him to Thinkful's Software Engineering program. Today Peter works as a Software Engineer for PayPal where he is working to unify all existing services to GraphQL, ultimately creating a new shopping experience that will bring value to consumers by making it easier for them to shop for products on the app.

How to join us: Once you register with Eventbrite, you will receive an email with the links to the live webinar from BigMarker. If you do not receive your link, please email virtual@thinkful.com.

Every year we are thrilled to partner with Walkin' and Rollin' Costumes to provide a venue for one of their amazing Costume Building events.

Every child deserves a cool costume. Sometimes, though, that's a little more challenging, especially for those in walkers and wheelchairs. That's why Walkin' & Rollin' Costumes was born: to be able to create something truly unique and custom-made for these special kids … something that's free of charge to the family. Thanks to a nationwide network of volunteers, sponsors and donors, they are able to bring smiles to kids' faces around the country and bring their imaginations to life.

Today the shop will be busy with volunteers working to create these costumes. If you would like to find out how YOU can help, please visit https://www.walkinrollin.org/ for details or to make a donation to their wonderful cause
