Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 12:00:00 PM The NEW HammerSpace Community Workshop

**THIS IS A 2-DAY, 2-PART CLASS. FIRST PART IS ON SATURDAY, NOON UNTIL YOUR KNIFE IS READY TO HEAT TREAT.
SECOND PART IS ON SUNDAY, NOON UNTIL YOUR KNIFE IS COMPLETED.**

Learn the art of knife smithing as you create a beautiful damascus utility knife.

These are a long time favorite of our instructor. A beautiful and compact knife based on a skinning knife that makes itself useful on a daily basis.

The wood grain pattern of damascus style laminate steel is highlighted by your choice of a variety of exotic hard woods for the handle.

On day 1 we will be shaping the knife in our workshop. Learn to profile your knife, apply a bevel and create a blade. Drill your tang, apply filework to the spine or add a hole for a lanyard. At the end of this class we will be ready to heat treat our blades.

On day 2 we will heat treat and quench your blades. Then we will learn how to attach a handle with brass pins. We will shape and finish the handles and finish and polish and sharpen the blades.

There will be a short intermission on both days, so you are welcome to bring food and drinks with you.

Age range: 18 and older

Down the Rabbit Hole into the Dark Web
DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!

Down the Rabbit Hole – A Tour into the Dark Web.

Frequently, Alice in Wonderland is used as the main analogy to the Dark Web, but just like in the book, no one tells us how this magical world was made and what the motive for its creation was. In our journey through this session, we take you through the evolution, goals and motivation of the Dark Web.

The session also exposes you to the syndicates and structures running on the platforms. Surprisingly we see how those groups were among the first to embrace and implement Blockchain technology and created a major global demand for crypto currencies.

Fixing Hardcoded Secrets the Developer-Friendly Way

MAKE SURE TO RSVP HERE AND NOT JUST ON MEETUP (IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT BUT WOULD LIKE THE RECORDING, IT WILL BE SENT TO ALL REGISTRANTS): https://cycode.com/fix-hardcoded-secrets

Thur, July 8th, 2021
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM PST

The practice of hard-coding secrets like passwords, tokens, and API keys is skyrocketing as applications increasingly leverage dependencies that require integration and Infrastructure-as-Code that must authenticate services. Yet, hardcoded secrets have been at the heart of numerous security incidents because they expose access to valuable resources and enable attackers to rapidly "peel the onion." Furthermore, secrets undermine the segregation of duties within organizations, which is key to many compliance standards such as SOC 2 Type II, ISO 207001, PCI, and more.

Yet, we must remember that developers have reasons to hardcode secrets. Not only is hard-coding secrets an efficient way to authenticate but most developers lack alternatives. The question we must ask is how do we balance security with developer efficiency?

This webinar will cover:

1. Introduction to hardcoded secrets (History, risks & breaches)
2. Detecting secrets (What to look for and where)
3. Developer-Friendly operationalization

Strategies for Cloud Security Cost Management
Wednesday, June 30, 2021 | 10am PT / 1pm ET
Organizations have traditionally turned to a SIEM vendor to analyze and manage their security events. They load a ton of log types, write rules for potential use cases, and then comb through alerts to better understand their environment. What they didn't know was that there is a better way to manage those logs and score cloud security savings in the process.

Join us for a live webinar on Wednesday, June 30 at 10:00 am PT | 1:00 pm ET. Our speaker, David Segura, Senior Solutions Engineer at Lacework, will go over strategies you can implement to start saving on cloud security through SIEM optimization.

He will go over these three tips and more to help get you on the right path forward:

Management costs: Resource hours, compute, and storage
Rule writing and tuning: There's a better way for cloud environments
Augmenting your SOC through better correlation and investigation management

Title:

Testing with AsyncAPI for Kafka: Brokering the Complexity

Abstract:

Quality Matters … and as event-driven architectures (EDA) become increasingly popular in the microservices space, ensuring the delivery and performance of your EDA increases in importance. But while it's powerful architecture, it does come with its challenges, especially from a testing perspective.

For example, most organizations are not reliant on Kafka alone, but a multitude of interconnected APIs like REST, GraphQL and gRPC. One of the questions that arise from this challenge: How do you build end-to-end tests when the APIs are completely different technologies—without relying on fragile scripts?

In our talk, we'll tackle this question and many more when it comes to the testing of Apache Kafka endpoints and your services architecture. We'll cover what makes testing in EDA difficult; technologies that can help you; and how we at SmartBear are thinking about these testing problems, and how we are trying to solve for them

What makes testing so difficult in EDA
What's in a message: Defining an event
Spec-based testing: Benefits of using AsyncAPI
Testing Demo: How we build off AsyncAPI and other protocols to streamline testing

With the lessons learned from sponsoring the OpenAPI Specification (Swagger) and supporting Kafka, the SmartBear team is looking forward to taking you on a testing journey.

Speakers:

Alianna Inzana, Senior Director of API Testing & Virtualization, SmartBear Software
Ali is the product leader for API Testing & Virtualization at SmartBear. Her career has spanned institutional asset management, economics, energy, security, and has led her to building the software that makes those other platforms possible. Her product management Super-power is asking weird questions at the right moment.

Tyler Mills, Product Director, ReadyAPI, SmartBear Software
Tyler is the Director of Product for SmartBear ReadyAPI, the API testing platform enabling functional, performance and security testing of APIs as well as virtualization of APIs that are not yet available. He has extensive experience in product management, user experience, and software development

Temil Sanchez, Product Owner, ReadyAPI, SmartBear Software
Temil Sanchez is a product owner who is currently responsible for driving product roadmap and optimizing each component of the development lifecycle. For the past 10 years Temil has had a focus on creating best API practices in testing, development and design via different roles in QA, support, solutions engineering and product. With the varying roles he brings a great deal of perspective to the API lifecycle and its future
