Presented By: Mat Warger

Level: Introductory/Overview - those new to GraphQL or AWS AppSync

Description: GraphQL has proven to be a viable technology since its inception at Facebook, but is now going mainstream. It is a specification and toolset for querying your data in a structured way. But - how do you get started? In this session, you will get a soft introduction to GraphQL and see how it can change the way you think about your data. Using AppSync on AWS, you can get up and running with a GraphQL endpoint quickly and easily. You will see how it provides a flexible, self-documenting API that can serve as an efficient alternative to RESTful web services. No experience with GraphQL or AWS is necessary, but a general understanding of REST (and APIs in general) is a plus.

Agenda: Some basic lecture, followed by a demo-heavy walkthrough of the service and associated tools. By the end of the presentation, we'll have a GraphQL API built that authorizes queries based on user permissions, interacts with multiple data sources, and communicates with a sample application.

Food and networking at 6. Presentation to start close to 6:30.
