  • When an API Doesn't Exist: Building a Web Scraper with Python to Download Linguistics Data: Matt Menzenski will discuss building a Python package to download data from an online linguistics corpus for which no API exists. Topics include web scraping (with the BeautifulSoup package), handling Unicode, structuring a Python package, and writing structured output (XML and JSON).
    How to Break Lines Without Breaking Hearts: Jon Smajda will discuss the line length issues that invariably arise in Python programs of more than trivial complexity. Sometimes, 80 columns just isn't enough.
