Speaker: Alex Woolford

Talk: Real-time recommendations with Snowplow, Kafka, and Neo4j

Abstract: The value of the information gleaned from a web session often has a very short half-life. Post-hoc analysis is often too late to be actionable. In this short talk, we'll show you how to generate customer profiles, and build a real-time recommendation engine with clickstream events sourced from Snowplow.

Bios: Alex is a systems engineer at Confluent, the company founded by the original creators of Apache Kafka.
He's been working with a diverse set of open source technologies for the past 7 years, specifically Hadoop et. al, StreamSets, and most recently Kafka. Alex maintains a YouTube channel of geeky practical examples which can be found at https://www.youtube.com/c/alexwoolford.

Outside of work he enjoys floating in a tank, playing guitar (very, very badly), and yelling from the sidelines at his kids sporting events.
