Title:
Designing and Implementing Information Systems with Event Modeling

Abstract:
Event Modeling is a fairly new information system modeling discipline created by Adam Dymitruk that is heavily influenced by CQRS and Event Sourcing. Its lineage follows from Event Storming, Design Thinking, and other modeling practices from the Agile and Domain-Driven Design communities. The methodology emphasizes simplicity (there are only four model ingredients) and inclusion of non-developer participants.

Like other modeling disciplines, Event Modeling is sufficiently general to enable collaborative learning and knowledge exchange among UI/UX designers, software engineers and architects, and business domain experts. But it's also sufficiently expressive and specific to be directly actionable by the implementers of the information system described by the model.

During this talk, we'll:
* Define the 4 element and 4 patterns that comprise Event Modeling using an example Event Model of a simple information system
* Demonstrate a collaborative Event Modeling workshop on a simple domain using the oNote, the Event Modeling Platform
* Explore how Event Modeling provides value throughout the Design, Implementation, and Operations phases of the SDLC

Bio:
Bobby is the founder of Evident Systems, which helps companies solve complex problems using simple event-driven systems.

Before Evident Systems, Bobby was a Distinguished Engineer on the Technology Fellows team at Capital One, where he designed and developed solutions to difficult problems, influenced the technical direction of Capital One while helping development teams implement that direction, and engaged the broader technical community via speaking and open-source contribution. Prior to Capital One, Bobby worked on the Product Team at Cognitect building, testing, and helping customers win with Clojure, ClojureScript, and Datomic.

Bobby's been writing web applications and distributed systems with Clojure and ClojureScript since 2010.
