Meeting Topic: Multi-Tasking is like an 'F' Bomb! Stop it! The 'M' Word is a bad word!

This month’s topic sheds a bit of light on a challenge every organization struggles with; multi-tasking. It has become so prevalent that it is the norm across just about every company. In fact, the larger the company the greater the level of multi-tasking present.

Description:

We’re all guilty to some degree or another of multi-tasking. Some of us even pride ourselves at how effective we are at it. We can keep multiple plates spinning making us even more productive, right?! Rights???

What we don’t often do is look at the reasons for and the costs of multi-tasking. We take it for granted that it’s part of our daily lives. But what if it doesn’t need to be? Join us this month as Paul Carter presents his 2016 Lean Agile KC Conference session. (Paul was not able to deliver this session at the conference last year due to illness.)

Paul will utilize the allegory of a rush hour traffic jam to unfold how one might realize business value sooner – i.e. get the car to its destination quickly. The session will include hands on exercises how we may be guilty of context switching and the impact of multi-tasking. He’ll also lead a facilitated discussion about how one can help control the flow of work in order to get more done and value realized sooner.

Speakers Bio:

Paul Carter grew up on the central coast of California. He currently resides in the Kansas City metropolitan area where he has lived for the past 20 years. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from DeVry University in Computer Information Systems. He has a strong background in the financial services industry – Mutual Funds, Annuities, Life Insurance and Banking. Paul is an Agile Transformation Leader for Commerce Bank. He is an Agile Coach and Scrum Trainer. Paul is an Agile enthusiast with a passion for transforming teams and growing agility as a business strategy within the enterprise. He has 10 years of Agile experience at all levels. He is passionate about using Agility in marketing, sales and other non-traditional areas in addition to software development. He currently teaches the following workshops: Agile Boot Camp and Product Visioning and Story Mapping. He holds the PMP, CSM, and CSP certifications.
