Speaker Bios:
Paul Bartak has been working with IBM databases since 1985, including the first version of DB2 on MVS. As an IBM customer for 14 years Paul worked in Application Development, Database Administration, and DBA Management - working with IBM & ISV Labs on various projects. He joined IBM in 1999 as an Information Management Technical Specialist, teaming with the Sales force to present, design, install, demonstrate, and evaluate IBM Information Management solutions in a pre-sales environment; gaining multiple certifications in Database Administration, Data Replication, Blockchain, and Cloud Computing. Paul developed the four generations of Migration Planning Workshops from DB2 V8 for z/OS, to DB2 11 for z/OS; and enablement for Db2 for z/OS pureXML and Temporal features. As a Principal Solutions Advisor with Rocket Software, Paul is focused on the tools used to maximize DB2 for z/OS value, with emphasis in database cloning and DevOps processes. He supports multiple Db2 User Groups, has been a speaker at several IDUG and Insight/Think conferences, and is a Redbook/Redpaper author.

Terry Purcell is the lead designer for the Db2 for z/OS Optimizer and Machine Learning within Db2 at IBM's Silicon Valley Lab, and is recognized worldwide for his expertise in query optimization and performance with Db2 for z/OS.

Abstracts:
Zowe: A new Face for z/OS
Information Technology is undergoing a revolution of changing architectures, new processing capabilities and a deluge of programming language options. With the ever-increasing speed of technology advancements, a dynamic workforce that spans millennials to baby boomers and rising expectations in user experience, there needs to be a new standard framework for interacting with the mainframe that enables an intuitive, productive and better integrated solutions.

Come learn about Zowe. A new open source software framework that provides solutions that allow development and operations teams to securely, manage, control, script and develop on the Mainframe like any other cloud platform. Zowe is the first open source project based on z/OS.
The IBM Db2 DevOps Experience for z/OS Technical Review
There are multiple studies that show the relationship between an agile organization and its success in the marketplace. At the same time, the competitive marketplace is tougher than ever, with technology savvy innovators entering industries and challenging mainstay enterprises. DevOps encapsulates the efficiencies necessary for the rapid, quality delivery of the software that drives these innovators. The database portion of the application is just as important as the application code, and has been identified as a major contributor to DevOps friction. This presentation will position where the IBM Db2 DevOps Experience fits in the DevOps world. With that understanding, we will dive into the details of the architecture and workflows, along with information about what this means for our customers. Develop your understanding of this product which elevates Db2 for z/OS into the fast paced, innovative world of DevOps
Machine Learning and Db2 for z/OS
Beginning with enhancing the access path decisions made by the optimizer tailored to your workloads, Db2 for z/OS is embarking on a journey to improve performance and manageability by exploiting machine learning. This session will outline where Db2 is in this journey, and hint at the roadmap for a self-tuning Db2.

Db2 12 and Continuous Delivery - What's New from the Optimizer?
DB2 12 for z/OS has been announced and DB2 has embarked on Continuous Delivery for ongoing features. So what's coming from the optimizer team regarding further performance enhancements? DB2 12 for z/OS had already delivered outstanding performance and scalability improvements from UNION ALL and outer join performance improvements, sort optimizations, improved predicate indexability and tighter integration of the Optimizer and RUNSTATS. This presentation will outline what was delivered and how future optimizer enhancements apply to continuous delivery.
