• What we'll do
Bob Wakefield will talk about SparklyR, a package that interfaces R with Spark. I'm not familiar with Spark, but according to one website it is a "cluster computing tool that enables analysis of massive, distributed data across dozens or hundreds of servers". So bring your cluster with you for this meeting.

Howard will talk about sentiment analysis. I've not done sentiment analysis yet, but I do know that it is a text mining tool that classifies text entries by their sentiment (positive, neutral, or negative).

Both talks represent topics that have been in high demand by our users. It should be a great meeting.

I should remind all our beginning users of R that you are also welcome to attend any of our advanced topic meetings. An advanced topic does not mean that only Stephen Hawking can understand it. It means that the talk is on a specialized topic that shows the breadth of problems that R can tackle. Beginners topic meetings (held more or less every other meeting) are on topics that are foundational and that every R user needs to know about.

Please start thinking about speakers and topics for our March meeting (tentatively a beginners topic meeting) and our April meeting (tentatively an advanced topics meeting).
