This class is for people that have worked mostly in GUIs and are looking to get into Big Data. Most Big Data software is operated from the command line with minimal to totally absent GUIs. Additionally, most Big Data software runs on the Linux operating system. If you've yet to make the jump from Microsoft tech to the open source world, this would be a good class to get your feet wet.

This class, as with all classes, will feature a lecture and hands on component. You'll get everything you need to get started and comfortable navigating Linux from the command line and where to go to get more information.

Doors open at 6. Class starts at 6:15 and should last about 45 minutes. I'll hang around for an extra hour if anybody wants to chat or goof around with the OS.

Bring your laptop with the following installed:

VirtualBox

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Linux CentOS 7 VirtualBox image

https://osdn.net/projects/sfnet_virtualappliances/downloads/Linux/CentOS/CentOS-7.0-amd64-minimal.ova/

These are both large downloads so let me know if you have issues pulling them down. It's best to have them downloaded prior to the class.
