6:00 PM

J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain

47th St, Kansas City, MO (map)

Welcome all to the fourth Vid Strut!
A VidStrut is our version of a photo walk. It's an opportunity to create something short and creative with very little pressure.
Work solo, team up with others; whatever you want!
Make it as simple or as complex as you like.
We'll have a few impartial judges choose their favorites - top three win raffle tickets and more!
6:00 - Social Time
6:30 - Quick intro, recap of NAB
6:45 - GO FILM!
8:00ish - Sundown
RULES:
This time, we're giving you the guidelines in advance!
The theme is "continuity." If you want to wow the judges, you'll probably want to pick something more complex than just showing the same person in every shot, for example.
Minimum of 4 different shots (no max)
Minimum of 2 different angles
60 seconds MAX (no real minimum)
Shots must be walking distance from the JC Nichols Memorial Fountain.
Post-production ALLOWED
Video deadline in one week. 6:00pm the 28th.
Posting guidelines will go up here after the meeting.
If you want to bring a production truck and aerial equipment... FANTASTIC!
If you want to shoot on your iWatch, that's also great!
If you have NO cameras and would like to partner up this is allowed! (Mention in the comments LFG) "Looking for group"
We'll have a book to give out for this meeting: Beyond Continuity: Script Supervision for the Modern Filmmaker
http://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Continuity-Script-Supervision-Filmmaker/dp/0240814894/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1429022275&sr=1-1&keywords=beyond+continuity
Hope to see you there!

    Topic:
    Performance Troubleshooting Using Wait Statistics
One of the first things you should check when investigating performance issues are wait statistics - as these can often point you in the direction for further analysis. Unfortunately many people misinterpret what SQL Server is telling them and jump to conclusions about how to solve the problem - what is often called 'knee-jerk performance tuning'. In this session, you will learn what waits are, how to analyze them, and potential solutions to common problem patterns.
    About Paul:
Paul Randal is the CEO of SQLskills.com, which he runs with his wife Kimberly L. Tripp. Both Paul and Kimberly are very widely known and respected experts in the SQL Server world, with both being SQL Server MVPs, and Microsoft Regional Directors. Paul was a Contributing Editor for TechNet Magazine, where he wrote the bi-monthly SQL Q&A column and feature articles. He also had the #1 top-rated workshop and #1 and #2 top-rated sessions at the PASS Summit in 2013.

Please note, this will be an afternoon meeting at the Microsoft office, drinks and snacks will be available.
Meeting Schedule for Thursday, January 15th, 2015:
    • 2:30 - 2:40 - Greeting and Housekeeping
    • 2:40 - 3:40 - Presentation

This month's meeting will be hosted by Cerner and should be of interest to a lot of people; Automated Testing.

Visit www.agilekc.org to get a map and to register for this event.  Cerner will be providing dinner, so registration is required to give them an accurate count.

    Meeting Topic:
Automated Testing An Experience Report and How to Get Started in Your Organization

    Meeting Description:
Ever wondered how to begin automation on an Agile team?  Looking for a process to automate existing or new tests?

Few things slow down a team more than technical debt and a large manual testing process.  In fact most organizations define how fast they can deliver value to their customers by how frequently they can run their manual regression testing.  This becomes even more critical when your team is working with other teams across an enterprise and you aren't leveraging automated testing.  At some point your code base will become so burdensome to maintain and test that the significant portion of the organization efforts and money will be focused on supporting existing code vs. delivering new value to its customers.

If this sound familiar to you, do yourself a favor and grab some teammates and come to this month's AglieKC meeting.  Tina Lockwood and Aimee DeWitt of Cerner will share their experiences, lessons learned and best practices with leveraging automated testing at scale.

Automated testing is too important to neglect, yet because most organizations don't know how to start, they continue to suffer.  This session may be the catalyst your organization needs!

    About the Speakers:
Tina Lockwood is a Solution Manager for the Automation Development team.  She has been at Cerner for 18 years and the last 10 years focused on automated testing and design for our internally developed automation solution.  Her team has been successful in Agile using automation for 5 years.

Aimee DeWitt is a Sr. Test Analyst at Cerner Corporation working on a new Web Application.  She has been at Cerner for 7 years and been a part of the Agile process for 5 years.  She has experience in working with automation on multiple platforms.
