    Our Evening Meeting Format

We love Web Development and all things PHP. Our meetings are often a little free-formed, but we shoot for this schedule:

    6:00pm - Mingling / Meet and Greet

    6:15pm - Presentations

So Sassy!: An Intro to Sass and Compass - Andrew Koebbe

Everybody's talking about it... you know you should be using it... but you don't feel sassy enough? Don't worry! In this session we'll cover the very basics of Sass and Compass. You'll learn about Sass variables, nesting, mixins, color functions and more. You'll also learn many of the great mixins and functions provided by Compass so you can stop worrying about those silly browser prefixes and sprite map nonsense.
Functions, Part One: Your First Custom Function - John Kary
This talk will be the first of several talks over the next few months strictly about functions in PHP. This will be geared towards developers that already use some of PHP's built-in functions or existing functions built into your favorite PHP library/platform. Maybe you're curious how you could write your own functions. We'll talk about when to you might want to write your own functions, the basics to defining them, handling arguments, how "scoping" affects which variables a functions can read, and how to return values.

    All Developers Welcome!

We understand Web Developers often come from all backgrounds, and many work in more languages than PHP. Whether you're curious and just starting out, dabble in PHP on the weekends, write custom PHP on a daily basis, work in a framework like Symfony, Zend Framework, Silex, Slim, FuelPHP, CakePHP or customize CMS products like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla; our goal is that you will find something new, useful and thought provoking.

Interested in giving a presentation to the group, or demoing something you're working on? Contact one of the organizers through Meetup or talk after a monthly meeting to sign up!
