SMCKC August Breakfast: Social Media Burnout (What To Do About It) | 7:30-9 a.m., August 2

    Buy Tickets Here

We've all had the dream. Yet, unless you're someone who has unplugged (either permanently or temporarily), it's never become reality. So we march ahead, creating, reading, and sharing content all in the pursuit of . . . well, in the pursuit of whatever motivates us to spend so much damn time on social media.

Join us at the August 2013 #SMCKC breakfast, 7:30 to 9 a.m. on August 2 at Think Big Partners (1800 Baltimore Ave., 6th floor), as we address the smoldering question: If social media isn't going away, how do you avoid burning out and still maintaining your love for getting all those likes?

We'll hear from a panel of Kansas City's most prolific content creators in addition to some who thought they had given up social media . . . only to get pulled back in again.

Featured Panelists and Their Twitter Bios

Ramsey Mohsen - @rm - Director of Social @DEGdigital, geek, co-founder of @kcsweaterparty, tech reporter, web strategist, speaker, YouTube vlogger! Work hard, do good, and have fun.

Doug Weinbrenner - @dougweinbrenner - "Digital Bridge Builder at @IntouchSol. I've listened to preachers, I've listened to fools. I've watched all the dropouts who make their own rules."

Alexis Ceule - @alexisceule - "Social Media Mamapreneur-Chief Engagement Officer: Making ur brand social via word o mouse! I love me some @Train and I'll shoot u on MWII as KUfans2009"

Mike Brown of The Brainzooming Group, a strategy and innovation consulting firm, will moderate the discussion. He blogs daily on creativity and innovation, tweets links incessantly, and shares way too many cat pictures on Facebook

Don't let #SMBurnout ruin your day, life, career, or love for pictures of cute animals.
Buy your tickets now and we'll see you on Friday!

    • Discuss this week's conversation starter. Some article, video or game that we can dig into a little.
    • Members can present any games they're working on, for feedback or just to brag.

  • Michael Ducy from OpsCode will be talking about "DudeOps: Why The Big Lebowski is About your IT project"!
Abstract: In this off colored talk, I'll cover the major players of cult favorite The Big Lebowski and how those players map to the people you are likely to encounter when executing an IT project. Successful IT projects are often more about the organizational issues you'll encounter rather than the technical issues. In this talk, we'll cover some of the "characters" of IT you will encounter on your journey, and how to overcome them. For fun, we will draw from the characters of The Big Lebowski, as well as the Dude's experiences, in order to help you navigate your organization. After all, "All the Dude ever wanted was his project done."

Hey, everyone, sorry for the short notice, but we're going to have to cancel tomorrow night's meetup. This is in part because of a low response, but mostly because of a personal matter arose for myself. It seems like the most appropriate thing to do.

    We'll see you next month.

Probably big table--but if it's beautiful outside, we may be out on the patio
  • Come inside and beat the heat this Saturday and chat it up with your local web developers.
While the conference room isn't available, we will meet in the open area at Black Dog Coffeehouse in Lenexa.  If you would like to drop by, grab some tea or coffee and hang out, we'll be there.

    Hope to see you Saturday!
