Some time in the first few months of the year 2012, the Kansas City metro will be hosting a User Group Leadership Summit.

Contact Lee Brandt, the leader of the .Net user Group if you are interested in participating (http://kcdnug.com/contact/). Here is more info from Lee:

I am attempting to put together a User Group Leadership Summit here in Kansas City. I think it is really sad that we silo ourselves by language and technology. I understand the need for special interest groups and groups focused on specific technologies (after all I run the Kansas City .Net Special Interest Group). What is sad is that we don't seem to cross those boundaries. Michael Gelphman has done a great job of bridging that gap somewhat, but I want us to be able to cross-pollinate ideas and events. For instance, I had no idea that there was a Ruby conference in Kansas city until a couple of months ago. It got me to thinking if there were other groups having events that I may miss because I am not plugged into this communities and I thought this might be a great opportunity to get all the user group leaders together to talk about how we can share information.

If you are interested, please let me know and I will arrange a lunch (or drinks) for us at a geographically neutral location (like midtown, 39th-ish). Also, if you have any good ideas for a meeting place/time, please send that as well.

The annual Christmas party of the Heartland Users Group will be held at Johnson County Community College, 2nd Floor Regnier Bldg. December 21st at 6:30 pm.

There are two important agenda items that I think you'd all enjoy:

1. Some of my CWEB 110 students will be presenting their final Web site projects to update the current Heartland Users Group Web site, www.hugkc.org The final projects will focus on validated coding -- xhtml 1 and css 2. The HUGKC.org officers who are present will be voting on the winner.

As you may know, hugkc.org supports 3 different SIGs (Special Interest Groups): Windows/Freeware, SharePoint, and Access. We are also in the process of starting a 4th SIG, a WEB SIG.

2. The Access SIG also has a little party during this meeting which includes a White Elephant Technology Gift Exchange.

So wrap up an old computer/technological treasure to exchange at the party, come see the student Web sites, and come see what the Heartland Users Group is doing on December 21st!

Thanks for your support,
Lisa Friedrichsen

Tech entrepreneurs in and around KC, join us for happy hour!

Venture Fridays is a simple but fun concept: The startup culture of Kansas City and surrounding areas is invited to gather at our private office lounge to discuss what we’re all thinking about, working on, needing help with, and might do for each other. Existing or aspiring entrepreneurs of all types and ages are invited. Let’s raise our glasses to building the entrepreneurial culture beyond ourselves.

Doors are open on Rainbow Boulevard (Westwood, Kan.) 4 to 6 p.m. on the 2nd Friday of every month. Who are your hosts? We’re a web marketing metacompany, still whiffing the baby powder of our start in 2009. We work hard, and we play hard. Sometimes Venture Fridays will be co-located with other events, sometimes not. Either way, we’ll be here drinking and thinking. Will you? Drop in.

No soliciting or mooching please (entrepreneurial mojo required; read more in Discussions).

Want to present your idea, get feedback, or find testers? Have an idea for an awesome entrepreneurial jam? We invite startup stimulation. Contact Carrie at Red Nova Labs.
