Topic: Getting Started with S#arp Architecture
ASP.NET MVC is all the rage lately. There are also several peripheral projects that compliment ASP.NET MVC development (MVCContrib, NHibernate, Fluent NHibernate, etc). Sharp Architecture is an opinionated framework that brings a lot of the best practices of ASP.NET MVC development together and can get you producing useful ASP.NET MVC applications quickly. We will create an application using Sharp Architecture and examine what it does for use and how to leverage its capabilities.

Topic: SQL Server Administration
Date: Thursday, August 13th, 2009 @ 6:00 pm
Speaker: Bill Graziano

About Bill:
He has been a SQL Server consultant for ten years. During that time he has helped companies large and small solve SQL Server problems. He does production support, performance tuning and application development around SQL Server. This session covers the steps I go through to configure and maintain a SQL Server. Bill is a SQL Server MVP. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Professional Association for SQL Server and Bill is a regular presenter at their conference. Bill started a web site for SQL Server professionals at SQLTeam.com that 20,000 people visit every day. And he likes to speak at user groups.
Detail: This session walks through a SQL Server installation, the post setup configuration, a basic security review, configuring a maintenance plan and basic performance monitoring. All with no PowerPoint slides. Instead we'll walk through my SQL Server setup and configuration checklist and I'll demonstrate everything I'm talking about. This session is great for new database administrators or part-time DBAs or anyone looking for a refresher. Experienced DBA's will learn something too! You'll get a copy of the checklist during the session and you'll get a link to download a copy for later. Some of the interesting things you'll learn during the session are:
• Why the Shrink Database maintenance plan task doesn't really shrink the database. And why you shouldn't shrink a production database anyway.
• Which database always needs its recovery model changed after installation?
• What free utility you can use for maintenance on the free Express Edition of SQL Server
• What is the most common mistake people make when configuring SQL Server Agent to send job notification failures
Sponsor: TBD
